SorSU Faculty Undergo Training on Developing PISA-Aligned Test Items

To strengthen the capability of faculty members in developing PISA-aligned test items, the College of Teacher Education BANAAG Center and SorSU Community Lifelong Learning Center, through the SINAG Program, in collaboration with the SorSU Extension and Training Office, conducted a Capacity Training Workshop on Constructing PISA-aligned Test (Training of Trainers and Faculty Extensionists) from August 18-19, 2025, at SorSU Dormtel, Sorsogon City.

The workshop officially commenced with opening remarks from Dr. Alfonso L. Garcia Jr. (Dean, College of Teacher Education), followed by a welcome message from Dr. Ryan V. Dio (Vice President for Research, Extension and Training). A special message was also shared by Mr. Ruel G. Frago (DepEd Program Leader-SINAG Program/Division Coordinator for Secondary Level Mathematics-DepEd Sorsogon City).


Dr. Aldrin John J. Estonanto (SorSU Program Leader-SINAG Program/Associate Professor V, SorSU CoTEd) gave an overview of the training, which aimed to equip faculty with skills in developing test items aligned with the PISA framework.


The sessions were led by Dr. Mark Lester B. Garcia (Lecturer, Mathematics Department, Ateneo de Manila University), who delivered lectures on Capacity Training Workshop for Mathematics Teachers on Developing PISA-aligned Tests, PISA Mathematics Assessment Framework, and Sample PISA-Like and PISA Items. In addition to the lectures, the two-day training included workshops focused on the development, presentation, and critiquing of assessment tasks.


The activity wrapped up with insights shared by SorSU and DepEd representatives, emphasizing the training’s importance and its potential to improve mathematics instruction at the university.
