To support electrical engineering alumni and fourth-year students in building resilience and essential skills to overcome challenges while preparing for their board examinations, the Office of Student Development and Services – Guidance and Counseling Services Unit (OSDS-GCSU) successfully organized a transformative session titled Engineering the Mind: Strengthening Resilience and Managing Stress on April 3, 2024, at the SorSU-Sorsogon City Campus Extension (Baribag Site) Covered Court.
Engr. Rufo D. Durian III (Dean, College of Engineering and Architecture) opened the session with an inspiring message, acknowledging the inherent stresses of the engineering program, while emphasizing that these can be managed through resilience, hard work, and perseverance.
Ms. Mary Ann J. Jintalan, RGC (Head, GCSU) delivered an insightful talk on mental and emotional well-being, offering actionable stress management strategies and highlighting the importance of self-care, time management, setting boundaries, and cultivating positive emotions to foster mental strength and healthy relationships. Further, Ms. Jintalan reiterated that resilience can be learned and enhanced through an empowered mindset.
Additionally, Engr. Noel Heroy shared valuable perspectives on stress management, while Engr. Clifford G. Gaton, in lieu of Engr. Larry E. Gracilla (Program Chair, Electrical Engineering) delivered the closing message, underscoring the three key pillars for successful board examinations: Prayers, Initiative, and Consistency.
The event effectively equipped the attendees with essential skills to thrive under pressure, signifying a crucial step in preparing SorSU’s future engineers for their academic and professional journeys.
