Bearing the theme, “Computer Education: Championing Resilience and Digital Justice in the 21st Century World,” Sorsogon State University – Graduate School (SorSU-GS) is presently organizing a one-day activity called ‘Summit on Cyber Security and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) in the context of Advancing Technology’ today, May 10, 2024, at the SorSU Audio-Visual Hall, Sorsogon City Campus.
Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs) delivered the welcome remarks, formally commencing the SorSU – Graduate School’s activity. VPAA Ricafort emphasized in his message that the importance of cyber security cannot be overstated, especially in today’s interconnected world, where technology plays a pivotal role in every aspect of people’s lives.
Subsequently, it was followed by a message from SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, wherein the University President commended the Graduate School for organizing the summit with high-placed officials and technical experts as resource speakers.
She remarked, “With the array of specialized topics to be discussed in this event, I am sure that the wealth of knowledge they will share benefits not only our students but also the faculty.”
“One of the challenges of the 21st century is how organizations can secure crucial data from malicious intrusion, stealing and even disinformation by criminal entities… I enjoin everyone to take advantage of this opportunity, listen well, learn as much as you can, and actively participate in the open forums. And when you return to your schools, offices, and homes, I hope that you will share and apply the lessons that you have learned.”
The one-day summit featured four (4) notable experts as the event’s resource speakers namely, Asec. Mary Rose Magsaysay, MPA C|CISO C|EH (Deputy Executive Director, Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center); Mr. Marlowe James F. Mayores, CCNA, MCAF (Information Technology Officer I, Development Bank of the Philippines); Mr. Richard Frederick Buenafe (DICT Head, EOC DRRMD-IMB); and Engr. John Nomel B. Ebuenga (Engineer II, DICT).
Additionally, the activity also included open forums in between talk sessions. (SorSU PIO)
