Sorsogon State University (SorSU) was honored with a Plaque of Recognition as a Collaborator during the 6th International and 9th National Conference on Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development (IPOVCON 2025). The event, hosted by Samar State University (SSU) in partnership with Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) and the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Region 8, convened academic institutions and development partners to strengthen shared initiatives for inclusive growth and poverty reduction.
Held on October 8–9, 2025 at BiPSU in Naval, Biliran, the conference brought together educators, researchers, policymakers, and development advocates to exchange knowledge and solutions for poverty alleviation.
Participating institutions included the University of the Philippines (UP Tacloban, UP Los Banos, UP Mindanao), Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology, Batangas State University, Catanduanes State University, Leyte Normal University, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, and Silliman University, alongside the host universities SSU and BiPSU. Anchored on the theme “Technology-Driven Solutions for Poverty Alleviation and Inclusive Sustainability,” IPOVCON 2025 underscored the critical role of technology in promoting inclusive social and economic development.
Seven faculty members represented SorSU by presenting their research at the conference, namely: Dr. Susan F. Astillero (Graduate School), Dr. Aaron A. Funa (College of Health and Science), Dr. Jordan Pocaan (College of Teacher Education), Marco L. Espinosa (College of Technology), Brian Gabriel Buenabora (Castilla Campus), Mari Anne B. Gojar (Castilla Campus), and Renz Alvin E. Gabay (College of Teacher Education).
Capping SorSU’s participation, Mr. Renz Alvin E. Gabay was awarded Best Paper Presenter, receiving both a Plaque of Recognition and a ₱10,000 cash prize for his exemplary research presentation.
The recognition bestowed upon SorSU and its faculty underscores the university’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, collaborative research, and innovation that champions inclusive and sustainable development. (AAF)
