The Sorsogon State University (SorSU), through the Human Resource Management and Development Office (HRMDO), conducted a two-day onboarding program for newly hired employees on September 2-3, 2025, at the Function Hall, SorSU CBM Building, Sorsogon City. The initiative was designed to equip new personnel with the fundamental knowledge, institutional policies, and support systems necessary to perform their duties effectively and to foster integration into the SorSU community.
The program officially commenced with a message from SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus. In her message, she said, “Courtesy and respect must be shown in our relations with colleagues and fellow workers in the university. We cannot work effectively and efficiently as an organization if we are divided by conflicting factions and selfish interests. Thus, I am expecting everyone to render the same respect and cooperation that you show to a professor or senior administrative official as to a utility worker, junior aide, or faculty member. Always keep in mind that the greatest are always those who serve with utmost humility.”
This was followed by a presentation on the University’s Vision, Mission, and Quality Policy Statement by Mr. Gerald E. Fulay, JD (Vice President for Administration and Finance), and an audio-visual presentation introducing SorSU’s key officials. Mr. Kenneth A. Golimlim acknowledged the newly hired personnel while Mr. Gideon Carl Grefalda discussed the Code of Conduct for Public Officials and Employees (RA 6713), along with an overview of the services offered by HRMDO. Topics on salaries, benefits, working hours, and leave laws were presented by Ms. Maricar D. Doctor, Mr. Kenneth A. Golimlim, and Ms. Elvie D. Deyto.
The second day began with a brief recap of the previous sessions, followed by a discussion by Atty. Mary Joy Bongapat on the 2017 Rules on Administrative Cases in the Civil Service. She also covered topics about the Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI), PIC, and grievance procedures.
Moreover, Ms. Glady Joy Mella presented policies on Gender and Development (GAD), followed by Ms. Elaine Audrey Y. Callos, who outlined HR processes. Prof. Shirley G. Dicen discussed ISO awareness, while Ms. Rosalie D. Labitag provided a run-through of accounting and finance services. Mr. Francis O. Antonio wrapped up the sessions with a briefing on safety and security protocols. The program culminated in an open forum, offering participants the opportunity to seek clarifications and engage directly with the resource persons on employment-related concerns.
Through this initiative, the HRMDO reaffirms its commitment to employee support and professional growth, ensuring that staff remain well-informed, empowered, and aligned with the university’s core values and operational standards. (SorSU PIO)
