SorSU illuminates Sorsogon City in ‘Parade of Lights and Lanterns’ activity; Lighting of giant christmas tree, gift giving, cosplay and more highlighted in festivities

Adorned by colorful costumes and attires, the Sorsogon State University family showcased artistry and unity during the SorSU Parade of Lights and Lanterns at the SorSU Sorsogon City Campus grounds on December 12, 2023.

The order of parade featured SorSU students, faculty, employees as well as the SorSU Top Officials in various outfits according to the assigned theme of each campus and department.

For Bulan Campus, the epic fantasy classic ‘Lord of the Rings’ was displayed, Castilla Campus featured ‘Fairies and Farm Animals’ theme, meanwhile, Magallanes Campus flaunted attires with an ‘Under the Sea’ theme. On the other hand, Sorsogon City Campus have several motifs ranging from games, heroes and winter season fashion such as the famous ‘Mobile Legends’ (for College of Technology), ‘Pinoy Superheroes’ (College of Engineering and Architecture), ‘Disneyland Characters’ (College of Business and Management), ‘Anime’ theme (College of Teacher Education and Midwifery), ‘Men in Black’ (Graduate School) and ‘Winter Wonderland’ (Non-Teaching Personnel).

After the parade, a ceremonial lighting of the giant christmas tree was held – showing the illuminating figures of the holiday season. SorSU President Geraldine F. De Jesus acknowledged the public in witnessing the ceremonies in the Pamantasang may Puso, she also warmly welcomed Bicol University (BU) President Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III who was in attendance.

“Ito ay bahagi ng aming pagpapasalamat sa bawat isa sainyo, sa napakaraming biyaya na natanggap ng Sorsogon State University… Ang mapasaya kayo sa isang araw ay lubos naming ikinagagalak. Binabalik namin ang lahat ng ito (sainyo) dahil lahat ng tagumpay ng SorSU ay hindi mangyayari kung hindi dahil sa aming mga mahal na estudyante, guro, at non-teaching personnel. Taos pusong pasasalamat po sainyo. Ito ay simula pa lamang ng ating masaya at masigabong pasko. Sa lahat po, magandang gabi at Maligayang Pasko sainyong lahat!” – Dr. De Jesus in her yuletide message.

Next, a gift-giving activity was initiated by the different colleges and departments of the University. SorSUeños handed out sweet treats to the children inside the campus, afterwards the awarding of winners followed.

Dr. De Jesus, together with special guest Dr. Nebres, Mr. Gerald E. Fulay (Vice President for Administration and Finance), Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President Academic Affairs), Dr. Ryan V. Dio (Vice President for Research, Extension and Training) along with Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (SorSU Sorsogon City, Campus Administrator) led and assisted in awarding of the winners coming from each campus and the non-teaching personnel for the Best Christmas Lanterns and Best Cosplay categories.

The event ended with the 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲 accompanied by the joyful music from the SorSU Marching Band, making this year’s Christmas Season another memorable one to all the attendees.
