SorSU, in collaboration with PESO LGU-Sorsogon City, spearheads Job Fair 2024 — a number of job seekers get hired on the spot!

Anchored on the theme, “Bridging Futures: Sorsogon State University Graduates,” Sorsogon State University (SorSU) – Career and Job Placement Services/ILDO Unit, under the Office of the Student Development and Services (OSDS), in partnership and cooperation with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) – LGU Sorsogon City, successfully spearheaded JOB FAIR 2024, joined by a total of 695 registrants (composed of SorSUeño graduates/alumni and PESO applicants) vying for employment and career opportunities offered by 15 various participating companies/agencies, held today June 17, 2024, which ran from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, at the SorSU Social Hall/Covered Court, Sorsogon City Campus.

Prior to the job application interview process, a short program was organized, which was graced by Hon. Ma. Ester E. Hamor (City Mayor, City Government of Sorsogon). In her opening message, the City Mayor highlighted that the job fair is an excellent opportunity for Sorsogueno job seekers, especially for recent graduates.

Meanwhile, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, in her welcome remarks, underscored that SorSU is an “E to E” university — from enrollment to employment. Through the Career and Job Placement Services Unit, the Pamantasang May Puso has continuously expanded its services and extended its support not only to the students but also to its alumni who are seeking jobs.

SorSU President De Jesus concluded, “I close my message with the hope that all applicants be accommodated for work in the companies of their choice. And in turn, that the representatives here are able to recruit and hire the people that their companies need.”

Further, Prof. Lelanie L. Berjuega (Head, Career & Job Placement Services/ILDO) provided the rationale/mechanics of the event, emphasizing that the aim of the job fair is for the job seekers to be connected with the employers.

“The OSDS, specifically the Placement Services, together with the PESO LGU, envisions to provide employment for [SorSU] graduates and PESO job seekers. Hindi lang po ito for SorSU, but we opened it to other Sorsoguenos. The job fair is not only an event. It is a crucial or vital step toward creating a more connected and prepared workforce.”

Following the messages and rationale of the activity, the participating companies/agencies were presented, where each agency briefly specified the job vacancies and career pathways that they offer to interested applicants/potential employees.

In her closing message, Prof. Maria Crisanta M. Jarque (Director, OSDS) remarked, “Ang job fair na ito ay isang patotoo na isinasabuhay ng unibersidad ang serbisyo pampubliko.”

During the job interview proper, a number of job applicants were notably hired on the spot by the participating companies/agencies, providing them the opportunity to officially join the professional workforce and advance their career development. (SorSU PIO)
