In a united effort to combat climate change and promote sustainable environmental practices, Sorsogon State University’s Office of Extension and Training Services (SorSU-OET), the National Service Training Program (SorSU-NSTP), and forty South Korean volunteers from Khayah International organized a tree-planting activity on August 21, 2025, in Sitio Quirino, Barangay Buhatan, Sorsogon City.
The Sorsogon City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), headed by Mr. Ronando Gerona Jr., supported the activity by providing tree seedlings and participating in the activity. Their involvement, along with the presence of multiple community partners, emphasized the shared responsibility of protecting the environment.
Representatives from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Sorsogon and the Sorsogon City Employees Union took part in the initiative. The Barangay Council of Buhatan, led by Hon. Edwin Divina (Punong Barangay, Barangay Buhatan) and Quirino Elementary School (QES), also joined the event, with Ms. Marjorie Gipan (School Principal), teachers, parents, and students, contributing to the cause.
This initiative also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), encouraging cross-cultural collaboration and proactive climate action. By engaging youth and community members alike, the event highlighted the importance of environmental responsibility and the power of collective action in building a more resilient and sustainable future.
