To strengthen its commitment to quality excellence and performance measurement, the Sorsogon State University (SorSU) Philippine Quality Award (PQA) Taskforce successfully completed a five-day intensive PQA Application Development Course from March 17-21, 2025, at the SorSU College of Engineering and Architecture in Baribag, Sorsogon City.

As the highest national recognition for outstanding organizational performance, the PQA sets the benchmark for quality excellence in both the public and private sectors in the Philippines. This course was designed to help SorSU align with these standards and strengthen its management practices.

The training began with an opening program that welcomed 36 participants and set expectations for the course. Mr. Gerald E. Fulay, JD (Vice President for Administration), formally opened the event and welcomed the invited resource speakers from the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP): Engr. Maria Renita C. Santos, Ms. Ivy Liezl H. Vinluan, and Ms. Stefhanie A. Lacbayo. They provided an in-depth discussion on the PQA framework and criteria along with its application process.

The participants included key university officials, such as Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs), Dr. Ryan V. Dio (Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training), Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City), Dr. Susan Janer (Dean, Graduate Studies), Dr. Leny D. Berdin (CAO, Finance Division), Dr. Sylisa J. Estur (CAO, Administrative Division), and Dr. Maria Lourdes G. Barrozo (SAO-Administrative Division). They were joined by selected faculty members and non-teaching personnel from various campuses to explore and navigate the PQA criteria effectively.

SorSU remains committed to aligning its goals and targets with national and international quality standards, ensuring excellence in management and performance amidst the changing educational landscape. (SorSU PIO)
