SorSU President De Jesus Attends Inauguration of Tanawon Geothermal Power Plant in Sorsogon City

Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, SUC III President of Sorsogon State University, was among the distinguished guests during the official inauguration of the 22-megawatt (MW) Tanawon Geothermal Power Plant held on August 1, 2025, at the Bac-Man Complex, Sorsogon City.

The event was led by the Department of Energy (DOE) and Energy Development Corporation (EDC), and was graced by prominent national and local officials including DOE Secretary Sharon S. Garin, Sorsogon City Mayor Ester E. Hamor, Congresswoman Marie Bernadette G. Escudero, EDC President and COO Jerome H. Cainglet, and EDC Vice Chairman and CEO Francis Giles B. Puno.


With the ₱7-billion facility operated by Bac-Man Geothermal Inc., a subsidiary of EDC, expected to generate 159,000 MWh of clean energy annually, Dr. De Jesus’ presence highlighted SorSU’s strong support for sustainable development and its alignment with national goals on renewable energy and environmental responsibility.
