SorSU President De Jesus, alongside Bicol SUC Presidents, attends UP Gawad Oblation 2024 Awarding Ceremony; joins the National Conference of SUCs on Program Quality Assurance in the Context of Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF); and partakes at CHED – Paglaum kag Pagdaug: Access and Success for Quality and Inclusive Higher Education
Sorsogon State University (SorSU) SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, along with other SUC Presidents in the Bicol Region, actively took part in three significant events today, February 12, 2024, namely: University of the Philippines (UP) Gawad Oblation 2024 Awarding Ceremony; National Conference of SUCs on Program Quality Assurance in the Context of Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF); as well as the CHED-initiative program – Paglaum kag Pagdaug: Access and Success for Quality and Inclusive Higher Education.
Present also in these events was the honorable CHED Commissioner and SorSU Board of Regents Chairperson, Dr. Marita R. Canapi.
Meanwhile, to express support to Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera (Chairman, CHED) as UP Gawad Oblation esteemed awardee, Bicol SUC Presidents, including SorSU President De Jesus, attended the University of the Philippines (UP) Gawad Oblation 2024 Awarding Ceremony at CHED Auditorium, Diliman, Quezon City, which commenced with welcome remarks from Atty. Angelo A. Jimenez (President, University of the Philippines System), followed by the Overview of Gawad Oblation & Gawad Oblation Medal as well as Testimonials from Dr. Teofilo A. Abrajano, Jr. (Chief of Staff of the President, King Abdullah of Science and Technology) – recorded by video message; Mr. Francis C. Laurel (President, Toyota Batangas City, Inc), whose message was read by UP Board of Secretary Atty. Roberto M.J. Lara; Dr. Lilian A. de las Llagas (Professor 12, UP); and Atty. Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro (Executive Director, CHED). Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera (Chairman, CHED), as a response, delivered a message to the attendees after receiving his Gawad Oblation Medal.
SorSU President De Jesus likewise attended the National Conference of SUCs on Program Quality Assurance in the Context of Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF), which is designed to bring together Presidents/Heads/Officer-in-Charge of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) to discuss and collaborate on strategies for enhancing program quality assurance aligned with the principles of PQF. Through this, it promoted an avenue for sharing best practices addressing challenges and cultivating a collaborative effort toward ensuring the excellence of academic programs.
In addition, the SorSU President was also present during the launching of CHED’s initiative on Inclusive Higher Education called, “Paglaum kag Pagdaug: Access and Success for Quality and Inclusive Higher Education”, aimed at improving the accessibility of tertiary education to all Filipinos.
Together with SorSU President De Jesus were the following Bicol SUC Presidents, namely: Dr. Baby Boy D. Nebres III (SUC President IV, BU); Dr. Alex H. Navarroza (SUC President II, BISCAST); Dr. Arnel B. Millesca (SUC President III, DEBESMSCAT); Dr. Marlo M. De la Cruz (SUC President III, CNSC); Dr. Amado A. Oliva Jr. (SUC President III, CSPC); and Dr. Arnel B. Zarcedo (SUC President III, ParSU).
