SorSU proactively pursues internationalizing its curricular programs — undergoes inspection by the Bureau of Immigration Legazpi District Office

In a proactive pursuit toward advancing its initiatives in internationalizing its academic programs, Sorsogon State University (SorSU), headed by Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, SorSU Sorsogon City Campus) and Dr. Vivien L. Chua (Director, International Relations Office), underwent a comprehensive inspection and assessment conducted by the Bureau of Immigration Legazpi District Office last November 13, 2023, which encompassed premises and facilities of SorSU-Sorsogon City Campus and SorSU Sorsogon City Campus – Baribag.

Highlighting its commitment to global academic standards, the University had previously submitted an application to the Bureau of Immigration for the 𝘈𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘈𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 under the CHED Program, which aimed to assess the capacity and readiness of SorSU to deliver quality education to potential foreign students. Relatively, the institution requested Schools Accreditation of the following Sorsogon City Campus curricular offerings, to wit:

– Master in Management – Major in Public Administration

– Bachelor of Secondary Education – Majors in English, Mathematics, and Sciences

– Bachelor of Elementary Education

– Bachelor of Technical Teacher Education (BTTE) – Majors in Automotive Technology, Electronics Technology, and Food & Service Management renamed as Bachelor of Technical Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd) under COPC No. 37 s. 2019 (Majors: Automotive Technology, Electrical Technology, and Food Service Management)

– Bachelor of Technology

– Bachelor of Science in Architecture

– Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

– Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

– Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

– Bachelor of Science in Accountancy

The premises examined and assessed focused on safety and comfort, and various learning facilities and organizational aspects as well. The Bureau of Immigration team, led by Mr. George P. Factora (Immigration Officer, BI-Legazpi City), together with Ms. Angelica L. Olbes (Accountant, BI-Legazpi City) and Mr. Jeffrey G. Salceda (Administrative Assistant, BI-Legazpi City), thoroughly inspected fire safety measures (fire escape/s, fire alarm control panel, fire extinguishers), ventilation, and restroom conditions. Key facilities fundamental to providing holistic learning experiences were also scrutinized, including classroom spaces, libraries, laboratories, computer rooms, clinics, administration offices, and teachers’ lounge. Moreover, auxiliary facilities such as the canteen, parking spaces, and CCTV cameras were also examined to ensure a secure and conducive learning environment. The evaluation likewise delved into the organizational structure, involving school administrator, teachers, librarians, and support personnel, which includes nurses, security, maintenance, and canteen staff. Additionally, provisions for future expansion were further taken into consideration.

The collaborative efforts of key officials including Dr. Alfonso L. Garcia, Jr., Dr. Orlando D. Doncillo, Engr. Rufo D. Durian III, Arch. Aaron Peter R. Nato (Program Chair, BS-Architecture), and Dr. Christopher C. Jaramiel were instrumental in facilitating the smooth execution of the inspection.

Further, prior to the inspection, the Bureau of Immigration representatives also held a visit to Mr. Gerald E. Fulay (Vice President for Administration and Finance) as well as to SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, following the completion of the assessment.

SorSU’s strategic effort for internationalization demonstrates its commitment to establishing a conducive and globally competitive learning experience by synchronizing its academic offerings with international standards.
