Sorsogon State University (SorSU) earned regional recognition after its student team was named the Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) 2024-Bicol Intercollegiate Regional Awardee during the awarding ceremony held at Villa Caceres Hotel, Naga City, on April 29, 2025. The awarding event was organized by the Department of Agriculture-Regional Office V, through its Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD), to highlight outstanding youth-led agribusiness projects in the region.

BATUAN FOOD ENTERPRISES, a business model developed by 4th-year BS Entrepreneurship students of SorSU-Bulan Campus, was awarded a PHP 250,000 grant and named the winning entry in the regional competition. The team, composed of Ms. Rina O. Frac, Ms. Diana S. Madulid, Ms. Julie Ann G. Morona, and Mr. Jerom P. Febrero, was accompanied by SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, and Prof. Ma. Elena C. Demdam (Campus Director, SorSU-Bulan Campus), during the awarding.


The team will represent the Bicol Region at the national level of the competition in the Intercollegiate Category. This achievement highlights Sorsogon State University’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and community-based initiatives among its students. The university continues to enhance its programs to equip students with practical skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.


Moreover, SorSU Bulan Campus BS Entrepreneurship students John Carlo F. Gamba, Jay G. Gicanal, James Michael E. Gamba, and their co-owners from Irosin Local Mushroom Farm, along with alumna Heide G. Agne of Moana’s Food Products, were named 2024 Provincial Awardees of Sorsogon and each received ₱80,000 in cash prizes.
