Bearing the theme “SorSU Games 2025: Building Bonds, Breaking Barriers, Becoming Champions Together,” Sorsogon State University (SorSU) simultaneously kicked off the SorSU Games 2025 across four campuses with a grand parade and an opening program highlighting the dynamic SorSU Bayle at Sorsogon City Campus on May 5, 2025, held at the Sorsogon Sports Arena.

SorSU key officials, faculty members, non-teaching personnel, student organizations, and SorSUeno students/student-athletes from various colleges joined the opening parade, which began at the SorSU Covered Court and proceeded to the Sorsogon Sports Arena.

Mr. Richard Kevin A. Espedido (OIC-Head, Sports, Culture and Arts Unit) delivered the opening remarks, followed by a message from Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City Campus).

Meanwhile, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, emphasized in her message the significance of a balance between academic programs and tasks/activities that promote physical fitness, sportsmanship, and holistic development.

“The intramurals’ purpose is for everyone to have a breathing space from studies and work, so there should be no serious competition in all events and no hard feelings if you don’t win… Let’s just enjoy friendly competitions,” SorSU President De Jesus advised the participants.

Adding to the celebratory atmosphere was the yell competition, where each college demonstrated unique creativity and teamwork. The Verdant Vipers (COEA) team emerged as the champion, earning a score of 92.7%. Meanwhile, Navy Falcons (CoTEd), Rising Golden Phoenix (CBM), Royal Panthers (CoHaS), and Crimson Wolves (COT) teams secured the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th runner-up spots, respectively.

Another anticipated highlight of the ceremony was the first-ever SorSU Bayle demonstration. This enthusiastic performance unified SorSU community members in a display of talent, solidarity, and collaborative spirit, creating a historic exhibition that embodied the essence of the SorSU Games 2025.

In addition, the activity also included the unveiling of the unit flags, the lighting of the friendship torch by the National SCUAA players, led by Ms. Princess Yzhey Dwyne Estopace and Mr. Kurt Cedric Garrote (National SCUAA Games 2025 Bronze Medalists), and the oath of amateurism.

Engr. Clifford G. Gaton (Sorsogon City Campus Sports Coordinator) declared the formal opening of the four-day SorSU Games 2025, signaling the commencement of various sports competitions and activities.
