Bearing the theme, “SorSU Students’ Academic Journey: Pursuing Excellence: Celebrating Achievements,” Sorsogon State University (SorSU) – Sorsogon City Campus recognized and honored SorSUenos’ academic achievements as well as outstanding accomplishments across various disciplines through spearheading its annual Recognition Day 2024 today, June 20, 2024, at the SorSU Audio-Visual Hall, Sorsogon City Campus.
The occasion commenced with the processional ceremony of the awardees alongside their parents as well as the faculty members of respective colleges, key officials, and the event’s distinguished guest speaker.
Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, SorSU-Sorsogon City Campus), in his welcome message, stated that the different awards to be given were mainly categorized into three: Academic Excellence Awards; Sports, Culture, and Arts Awards; & Service and Leadership Awards, emphasizing that the aforementioned recognitions would not be possible without the three equally crucial elements: (1) support from the parents; (2) guidance & mentorship from the faculty; (3) support of the administration.
Meanwhile, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, underscored in her message that the special day has been organized and held for a particular reason — recognizing the extra efforts and diligence the students have exerted in the past years while completing their degrees.
SorSU President De Jesus remarked, “Satisfactorily passing all the academic requirements is already a commendable achievement. However, excelling in your subjects while being actively involved in wholesome extra-curricular activities and projects surpassed what other students accomplished.”
“As I said before, we aimed for our students’ holistic development while they are still studying here, so that when they graduate and pursue their careers, they shall function effectively as professionals and, at the same time, lead their lives fully as human persons.”
Hon. Erwin C. Estremera (Municipal Councilor of Gubat), this year’s distinguished guest speaker, highlighted that the recognition day is not merely a pursuit of knowledge but a continuous process of self-discovery. He added that it is about striving to be better as well as setting high standards and working diligently to meet them.
“As you embark on the next chapter of life, take with you the lessons that you learned in these four walls of the university. Continue embracing the value[s] of integrity, resilience, and passion for learning. These are the pillars of excellence that will support you in all your future endeavors.”
The awarding of medals and certificates to the student awardees by their respective parents was facilitated by SorSU President De Jesus, Sorsogon City Campus Director Escoto, Deans: Dr. Maria Luisa P. Mirasol (College of Business and Management); Engr. Rufo D. Durian III (College of Engineering and Architecture); & Dr. Alfonso L. Garcia, Jr. (College of Teacher Education and Midwifery), and SorSU faculty members. Among the various awards included the following commendations: College Outstanding Students, Academic Distinction Awardees, Best in Shop, Special Awards; Sports Awards, Culture and Arts Awards; Campus Leadership Awardee, Campus Service Awardee, Leadership Awardee, Service Awardee, Top 5 Most Active Organizations, Most Active Organizations, Most Active Student Publication, and Most Active Ushers and Usherettes.
