Sorsogon State University held its 31st Commencement Exercises on June 26, 2024, at the Sorsogon Convention Center, Sorsogon City celebrating the theme “Exemplifying Professionalism and Versatility in an Era of Connectivity: A Challenge to the Graduates”. The ceremony honored the diligent efforts of the graduates from the College of Business and Management and the Castilla Campus for the Academic Year 2023-2024.
The graduation rites formally commenced with an academic processional, highlighted by the entrance of colors and the university mace carried by Atty. Mary Joy C. Bongapat (Acting Board Secretary V, Attorney IV).
Prof. Andrew F. Detera (Campus Director, Castilla Campus) and Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City Campus) presented their respective candidates for graduation to SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus for the official conferment of their degrees.
With authority and pride, the university president ceremoniously conferred the degrees upon the graduates. In total, 240 degrees were conferred to students of the College of Business and Management. Specifically, 23 graduates earned a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, 91 in Entrepreneurship, 57 in Tourism Management, and 69 in Hospitality Management.
Similarly, 257 degrees were awarded to students from the Castilla Campus. This includes 60 graduates in Agricultural Education with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Program, 28 in Animal Science, 35 in Crop Science, and 134 in Agricultural Technology.
The College of Business and Management class of 2024 distinguished itself with 2 magna cum laude and 20 cum laude graduates, each achieving a CWAG within the 1.46 – 1.75 range. Meanwhile, the Castilla Campus celebrated 1 magna cum laude and 2 cum laude graduates.
Dr. Milabel Enriquez-Ho, Executive Director of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), graced the event as its commencement speaker. She delivered a compelling commencement speech, urging the graduates to seek out connections that could lead to career opportunities. In her address, she stressed the importance of engaging with the world, showcasing their skills, and becoming active digital citizens. Moreover, she encouraged them to step out of their comfort zones, reach out to others, and broaden their horizons beyond familiar boundaries.
SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus oversaw the awarding of Medals to Honor Students, with the assistance of Dr. Jhonner D, Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs). Kean Eric P. Ganza who finished magna cum laude from the BS Agricultural Technology Program, delivered Words of Gratitude on behalf of the graduates. The Pledge of Loyalty led by Prof. Mark John G. Guysayko (Vice President, Faculty Association), and the Induction of Graduates to the Alumni Association by Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (President, SorSU Alumni Federation) came after. The graduation ceremony culminated in a rendition of the SorSU hymn by the graduates.
