THESIS IT!: Union of Punlic Servants spearheads Research Seminar-Workshop for Senior High, College Students

Sorsogon State University Bulan Campus – The Union of Public Servants (UPS), the flagship organization of Bachelor of Public Administration students of the College of Business Management and Education, organized an activity entitled “Thesis It!: Research Seminar and Consultation” on August 8–9, 2024 at the Sorsogon State University – Bulan Campus Social Hall.

The event was participated by senior high school and university students from various barangays and schools within the Municipality of Bulan.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Rhyz April L. Gueta, Project Director of the event, emphasized the importance and benefits of participating in this student-led initiative. She noted that it would allow students to develop critical and analytical thinking skills.


The event featured a series of discussions on essential research topics, led by Mr. Rytzz M. Obsum, Student Development and Services Coordinator, and Mr. Jopet Vincent B. Medalla, Program Chairperson for BTVTED. The key topics covered during the event included Social Issues in the Philippine Context, Formulating Research Objectives and Selecting Methodology, Conducting Literature Research, and Data Analysis and Interpretation.


The discussions focused on equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance their research writing and proposals. This comprehensive approach aimed to encourage the creation of relevant and fact-based studies that address pressing societal issues. Mr. Obsum and Mr. Medalla discussed types of research, suitable methodologies, data-gathering procedures, and the importance of research in various fields such as medicine, food, and technology. They also inspired students with the message: “You will empower your research.”

An interactive session was also held to assess participants’ ability to formulate research titles and identify timely concerns that require immediate study. Students were given time to elaborate on their work and present their ideas to fellow learners, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

The event concluded with Mr. Mel-Jhun M. Evangelista, UPS President, expressing his gratitude to the Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Otavi, Zone 7, Managa-naga, Obrero, San Rafael, and JP Laurel for their support, as well as the participants for their invaluable contribution to the victory of the seminar. | via The Union of Public Servants
