The Research & Development Office of Sorsogon State University – Bulan Campus, headed by its coordinator, Ms. Mary D. Especial, initiated the activity tagged “Enhancing Research Skills: A Re-Orientation of and Workshop on Writing, Publishing and Presenting Research Papers” on August 8-9, 2024 at the SorSU-BC Audio-Visual Room.
The activity primarily aimed to re-orient the faculty members on the university policies and guidelines on research and development initiatives, specifically on the research process, funding, publication, presentation, utilization, and rewards and incentives. By making sure that the faculty members are well-informed about these policies, the SorSU-BC administration hopes to motivate them to strengthen research undertakings, and further improve the performance of the campus.
Unit heads from the SorSU Office of the Vice-President for Research, Extension & Training (OVPRET) served as resource speakers in the re-orientation and workshop. Engr. Ivy Rose Gonzales, Director for Research & Development, discussed the RET Agenda for 2023-2027, and the updates on the RET policies and guidelines. Moreover, Prof. Jezzabie Gamis, IP-TBM Head, oriented the faculty on the research utilization of chemical products while Ms. Sheryl Solano, IP-TBM staff, tackled research utilization on mechanical and ICT products.
On the second-day, publishing using the SorSU Multidisciplinary Research Journal (MRJ) was discussed by Prof. Frances Grace Jetomo, Publication & Knowledge Management Head. Finally, Prof. Jordan M. Pocaan, a faculty member of the College of Teacher Education & Midwifery, delivered a lecture on how to select reputable journals for publication.
With this activity, on-going research projects are expected to be completed while completed research are aimed at being published which will help the campus achieve its 2024 targets along research and development.
