University of the Philippines – National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, in collaboration with Sorsogon State University (SorSU) – Castilla Campus, through its Technical Services Program (TSP), successfully conducted Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology Research Seminar-Workshop to SorSU-CC faculty members, personnel, and students today October 26, 2023, at the Farmers’ Training Hall, SorSU-Castilla Campus, Castilla, Sorsogon.
SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, in her welcome remarks to the participants, emphasized that the University is actively seeking to engage established institutions like UPLB in collaborative partnerships that will result in the improvement of our research and technical capabilities — hence, SorSU is immensely delighted and grateful with all the assistance that the UPLB extends to the 𝙋𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙖𝙮 𝙋𝙪𝙨𝙤.

Following the welcome remarks, Ms. Claire S. Ramos (University Researcher I, BIOTECH UPLB) provided the overview of the seminar-workshop on tissue culture and introduced the BIOTECH (AVP) and resource persons.
Moreover, Ms. Claire S. Ramos (University Researcher I, BIOTECH UPLB) and Ms. Anchilla L. Comia ((University Researcher Associate II, BIOTECH UPLB) jointly delivered the lecture on in vitro propagation. Afterward, Ms. Claire S. Ramos, Ms. Anchilla L. Comia ((University Researcher Associate II, BIOTECH UPLB), and Ms. Josie C. Pamparo also conducted a visit and tour to the SorSU tissue culture laboratory.
Meanwhile, the afternoon session focused on the workshop on in vitro propagation of banana, facilitated by Ms. Ramos, Ms. Comia, and Ms. Pamparo. It was followed by feedback and evaluation, as well as the awarding of certificates. Further, Prof. Andrew F. Detera (Campus Director, SorSU-Castilla Campus) provided the closing remarks. (SorSU PIO)
