Supporting a long tradition of uniting people through sports, the SorSU Games 2024 officially started on March 12, 2024 for Sorsogon City, Bulan and Magallanes Campuses. At the SorSU Main Campus, a Holy Mass which was officiated by Rev. Fr. Dexter R. Delumen, was celebrated by the students, faculty and personnel.
After the mass, the Sports, Culture and Arts Services Unit headed by Mr. Oliver Garbin, and through its Sports Unit led by Engr. Clifford G. Gaton, hosted basketball exhibition games among SorSU faculty and staff aimed at livening up the intramurals and to celebrate a shared love of sports.
The much-anticipated University Intramurals carries the theme “Honing Skills, Fostering Camaraderie in the Pamantasang May Puso”. The main objective of the SorSU Games 2024 is to cultivate sportsmanship and nurture the indomitable spirit of the student-athletes. This is also a perfect time to highlight the value of teamwork and discipline.
The College of Education and The College of Business Management Women’s Faculty Teams graced the floor of SorSU’s covered court for an exhibition game. Both teams showed grit and toughness throughout the game. The frenzied match drew a huge number of screaming fans who absolutely enjoyed the game.
The College of Education women’s basketball team pulled off a convincing victory against the College of Business Management team.
This was then followed by another round of exhibition match between the College of Technology and the College of Engineering and Architecture men’s basketball team. Competitive drive and toughness were on full display during the game. The College of Technology won after an intense match with the players’ steadfastness as the central reason for the win.
The game also served as a gauge of the team’s readiness to compete against tough opponents. Separate activities and other sports events will be held in the coming days.
In the afternoon, the spirited parade was attended by the SorSU community. The parade line-up included the Philippine National Police (PNP) Mobile, ROTC Colors, 1st Batch of Marching Band and Majorettes, SorSU DRRMO, Key Officials, DLC of Laboratory High School, 2nd Batch of SorSU Band and Majorettes and the Non-Teaching Staff.
Showing their colors and logos, the delegates of the Laboratory High School (LHS) units marched with their Official Candidates, Bench Cheer Dancers, Faculty, Athletes and Students.
The College of Engineering-Architecture Delegates, the College of Business Management Delegates, the College of Technology Delegates and the College of Teacher Education and Midwifery Delegates with the Major and Minor Organizations/Students and Faculty also joined the parade.
Simultaneous opening of SorSU Games 2024 also took place at Sorsogon State University Bulan and Magallanes Campuses. Each of the campuses had their own styles of celebrating their intramurals with fun and enthusiasm. Likewise, the Sorsogon State University – Castilla Campus will begin their Sportsfest 2024 tomorrow. The next three days will showcase the Sorsueno students’ grit, skills and talents in their respective sports. (SorSU PIO)
