Project danao

Nag-Aso Lake is more than a destination—it is a living ecosystem, a source of livelihood, a center of biodiversity, and a shared heritage of the people of Manito, Albay.

Through Project DANAO, research has transformed into action: empowering communities, strengthening partnerships, advancing conservation policies, and creating sustainable opportunities for future generations.

Community & Demographics

The project successfully profiled 443 households within the Nag-Aso Lake communities, covering a total population of 1,640 residents, composed of 834 males and 806 females. With an average household size of 3.7 members, the study generated vital socio-demographic and socio-economic data that support evidence-based conservation planning, community development, and policy formulation for the lakeside communities.

Nag-Aso Lake Profile

Located approximately 50 kilometers from Legazpi City, the Nag-Aso Lake ecosystem spans around 3 hectares, with an actual lake area of 0.4 hectares situated at 44 feet above sea level. The lake is home to diverse native flora and fauna, including narra, bamboo, buri, kingfishers, owls, and other endemic species, making it a significant ecological and ecotourism site in the Bicol Region.

Intellectual Property & Creative Outputs

Project DANAO produced numerous knowledge products and intellectual property outputs that strengthened research dissemination and environmental advocacy efforts. The project generated 5 copyrighted outputs, including brochures, policy briefs, documentary videos, AVPs, and a hardbound book with ISBN publication. In addition, the initiative produced 3 scientific publications, including papers published or submitted to international and Scopus-indexed journals, further contributing to research on sustainable lake ecosystem management and conservation.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Supported

Project DANAO actively contributes to the achievement of multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through conservation initiatives, policy development, research, community participation, and multi-sectoral collaboration, the project promotes sustainable environmental stewardship and resilient local communities.
