The Sorsogon State University through the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IP-TBM) Unit conducted a 2-day activity titled, “Patent Craft: Prior Art Search and Claim Drafting Workshop,” on October 19-20, 2023 held at the Creative Project Co-Working Space, Magsaysay Street, Sorsogon City. The activity commenced as Dr. Ryan V. Dio, the Vice President for Research, Extension and Training gave his warm message of support and highlighted the importance of the conduct of the workshop. Engr. Ivy Rose B. Gonzales, the IPTBM Unit Head, discussed the mechanics of the activity and the expected output of the workshop as part of the opening program.
The seminar featured two of the IP Officers of the University, Ms. Sheryl Solano and Engr. Gonzales who serve as resource persons in the activity. They shared their expertise on various processes of Prior Art Search, IP Application Process, Invention Spotting and Claim Drafting. Faculty & student researcher with developmental research from all campuses of the university attended the activity and actively participated by engaging in the workshop, presenting their output and seeking clarifications on the different IP-related issues and technicalities. The speakers addressed the queries raised by providing practical scenarios in prosecuting an IP application.
Furthermore, the activity concluded with the successful filing of two utility model. As led by the resource speakers, two of the participants, Dr. Rose Ann Sambo of Castilla Campus & Mr. Jeffrey Estrada of Sorsogon City Campus who were first to finish the patent draft of their technology, demonstrated the step-by-step IP application in the IPOPHL website to guide the other participants who are finalizing their patent draft. These two filings reflect the practical impact of the workshop and multiplication of trained personnel in prior art search and claim drafting.
The workshop has undoubtedly left a profound impact on the intellectual property landscape of the university as we anticipate future innovations and developments.
