Sorsogon State University Laboratory High School students participated in the 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐝 (𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐎) 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 via online platform at the SorSU Library, Sorsogon City Campus last October 22, 2023. This also marks the first time SorSU LHS had partook in a national elimination for an international competition with 22 selected students.
The TIMO is an annual international Olympiad competition jointly organized by the Olympiad Champion Education Group (OCEC) from Hong Kong and Thailand Mathematics Society which aims to stimulate and foster young people’s interest in learning mathematics, strengthen the ability of their creative thinking, widen their international perspective, and promote the development of primary and secondary education and exchange of educational cultures throughout countries/regions.
Moreover, the TIMO is participated by several regions/countries such as Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Philippines.
The TIMO Heat Round’s coverage challenged student participants in five (5) areas namely (1) Logical Thinking, (2) Arithmetic/Algebra, (3) Number Theory, (4) Geometry and (5) Combinatorics. Prior to the competition, the students underwent sets of coaching sessions from October 16, 18 to 20, 2023.

Furthermore, the results for the TIMO Heat Round are expected to be released 1 to 2 months after the competition. The qualifier for the HEAT ROUND shall proceed to the next step of the olympiad which is the FINAL ROUND.
