In an effort to raise awareness on the imminent threat of fire, the SorSU Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change (DRRM/CC) and the Gender and Development in partnership with the Sorsogon City Fire Station conducted a Fire Safety Seminar on March 7, 2024 at Baribag Campus Covered Court, Sorsogon City Campus.
Mr. Ryan Remolacio, the Administration and Training Officer of SorSU DRRM/CC acknowledged the presence of the participants from Bulan, Castilla, Magallanes and Sorsogon City Campuses.
It was subsequently followed by the opening remarks of SUC III President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus. In her message she thanked the resource speakers for extending technical assistance vital to the enhancement of the capabilities of SorSU’s response teams and hoped that the participants will be able to learn and absorb all that they could from the three-day training course – and apply the new learnings in emergency situations in the campuses and community should the need arise.
Fire Inspector Dante D. Ditan, the Deputy City Fire Marshal emphasized that the primary goal of the said training is to educate the participants about fire prevention and response as well as to train them about disaster preparedness. As the Director of Gender and Development, Ms. Riche Justine Duran pointed out that the commitment of the participants to safety and preparedness is crucial in ensuring the well-being of the stakeholders and communities.
Under the banner, “Safety First, Diversity Always: Fire Safety Seminar and SorSU Fire Brigade Expansion,” the program equipped the participants with knowledge and skills needed to effectively address fire-related challenges.
