Sorsogon State University (SorSU) – Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Units from various campuses, including Sorsogon City Campus, Castilla Campus, and Bulan Campus, convened in solidarity at the Sorsogon Sports Coliseum and successfully led the ceremonial rites of the university-wide ‘Joint Presentation of Sponsors and Escorts’ composing of thirty-six (36) sponsors and twenty-three escorts on April 28, 2024.
With SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, as the esteemed guest of honor and speaker, the joint event, along with the Presentation of Sponsors and Escorts, highlighted the Trooping the Line, Honor to Nation & Honor to the University by SorSU Marching Band, Reading of Orders led by MAJ Serjhim C Temperante (INF) PA (Assistant ROTC Commandant, SorSU Sorsogon City Campus), as well as the Pinning of Ranks.
Prior to the message of the SorSU President, Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs) delivered the welcome remarks of the ceremony. Meanwhile, in her message as the event’s guest of honor and speaker, SorSU President De Jesus commended everyone involved in the university-wide activity for their diligence and commitment during practice/rehearsals over the past weeks to ensure that the presentation of sponsors and escorts will proceed in the best way possible.
“As a final note, we must always keep in minds and hearts that true satisfaction in this life can be achieved by serving others, not only ourselves.”
“And as you fulfill your duties as cadet officers, the reason why your escorts and sponsors are beside you is clear. In the challenges and trials that we encounter in life, we have to be with dependable people who will share with us the hardships and encourage and support us when the burden is already too much.”
SorSU President De Jesus likewise emphasized in her speech that escorts and sponsors possess far beyond their pretty and handsome appearances. She remarked, “They also have talents and skills that can you help fulfill your aspirations in your ROTC program — so, always treat them with the highest respect that you can.”
Further, the Director of the 505TH CDC/ROTC Commandant and SorSU Sorsogon City Campus Commandant, MAJ. Annamy N Nero (OS) PA led the Presentation of Memento.
Additionally, the event was also graced by CPT Rolly S Vibar (Tactical Officer of SorSU-ROTC, Sorsogon City Campus), CPT Richelle Arambuyong (FS) PA (Commandant of SorSU-ROTC, Castilla Campus), Prof. Ma. Claire M. Dicen (SorSU NSTP Director), Ms. Mary Rose B. Lacdang (NSTP Coordinator & Matron of Sponsors, Sorsogon City Campus), Ms. Charlene N. Lagunilla (NSTP Coordinator & Matron of Sponsors, Castilla Campus), Mr. Richard G. Rabulan (NSTP Coordinator, Bulan Campus), and Ms. Eula Ceelin Velasquez Barcase (Matron of Sponsors, Bulan Campus). The ceremonial activity particularly recorded a total of 25 sponsors and 11 escorts for the Sorsogon City Campus, while Castilla and Bulan Campuses presented the following (7 sponsors, 6 escorts; 4 sponsors, 6 escorts, respectively).
This remarkable execution of the university-wide joint event exemplifies the collaborative efforts and teamwork among the ROTC Units across different campuses. It served as an avenue to recognize and honor the esteemed sponsors and escorts, demonstrating SorSU-ROTC’s shared commitment to fostering a sense of leadership, camaraderie, and service among its community members.
