In spiritual celebration of the culmination of graduating SorSUenos’ academic journey in the academe, Sorsogon State University (SorSU) held a solemn university-wide Baccalaureate Mass & Solidarity Candle Lighting Ceremony, attended by students of Class of 2024 together with their parents as well as SorSU executive officials and teaching & non-teaching personnel across four campuses, at the Sorsogon Sports Arena, Sorsogon City, last June 21, 2024.
The baccalaureate mass was led by Mass Presider, Rev. Fr. Fernando Caindec and Co-celebrant, Rev. Fr. Gerico Pangilinan. Subsequently, it was followed by a short program for the Solidarity Candle Lighting Ceremony, which commenced with an audio-visual presentation called Memories of Academic Journey and Words of Gratitude by Mr. John Emil D. Estera (PhD Filipino – 2024) & Mr. Erwin D. Formento (Student Regent).
In her Words of Inspiration, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, enjoined the graduating students to reflect on the University’s Core Values — Humility, Excellence, Accountability, Resilience, and Trustworthiness — and consider possible ways to integrate them in the next phase of their lives as career professionals.
SorSU President De Jesus concluded, “In our institution, our genuine concern for you does not end when you graduate but continues until you are able to find suitable work. In our mandate to promote development and progress in our communities, we always strive to help our students and even the graduates achieve the professional objectives and career advancement that they aspire for.”
“In time, we can claim that the university is effectively fulfilling its mandates if most of you are satisfactorily employed and leading successful careers.”
Meanwhile, the Words of Solidarity and Candle Lighting was led by Ms. Caryl Mae Habla (BSED-4), while the Tribute Song (In this Moment by Alison Yap) was headed by Ms. Claudine L. Napili and Mr. Chris Ivan M. Chavez (BSIT-4). The ceremonies concluded with the signing of uniforms among the graduating students, followed by a dazzling fireworks display. (SorSU PIO)
