Rekindling Old Bonds: SorSU Castilla’s ‘AgrIstoryahan’ Brings Alumni Together for a Day of Reunion and Celebration

The Sorsogon State University Castilla Campus played host to its 3rd Grand Alumni Homecoming on July 20, 2024, bringing together alumni from the Sorsogon National Agricultural School (SNAS), Sorsogon State College (SSC), and Sorsogon State University (SorSU) for a day filled with nostalgia and celebration.

The event commenced with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration, which set a reflective and reverent tone for the festivities. This sacred service provided a moment for invoking blessings and reflecting on the significance of the gathering. Following the mass, alumni participated in a vibrant motorcade that paraded through Barangay Mayon, showcasing the lively spirit of the occasion.

The motorcade was followed by an informative alumni orientation led by Mr. Noe B. Ocbian, the outgoing President of the SorSU-Castilla Campus Alumni Association. Mr. Ocbian played a pivotal role in the event, guiding the orientation and overseeing the election of new officers for the alumni association. This election was a key part of the day’s agenda, designed to strengthen the organization’s foundation and enhance connections among its members.

In the afternoon, the event featured a lively ‘Bingo Social,’ where participants competed for a variety of prizes. This engaging activity added an extra layer of excitement and enjoyment to the day’s proceedings, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the attendees.

As evening approached, the focus shifted to the ‘Banggi kan AgrISTOYAHAN’ segment. The evening began with welcoming remarks from Mr. Ocbian and continued with the presentation and oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected alumni officers.

Prof. Andrew F. Detera, SorSU Castilla Campus Director, delivered an inspirational address, celebrating the rich history and significant contributions of SNAS, SSC, and SorSU alumni. Dr. Milagros N. Ebuenga, the newly elected president of the alumni association, shared her commitment to serving the organization and its members with dedication. Dr. Magdalena M. Ocbian, former Vice President of Academic Affairs at Sorsogon State College, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the alumni for their ongoing support and involvement in the community.

The evening’s festivities culminated in an awards presentation, a raffle of exciting prizes, and a vibrant band performance. The night was filled with music, dance, and joyful reunions, providing a fitting end to a day dedicated to celebrating the enduring spirit and achievements of the SorSU community.
