SORSOGON STATE UNIVERSITY

MAGALLANES CAMPUS

The Sorsogon State University (SorSU) Magallanes Campus was originally known as the Sorsogon State College (SSC) School of Fisheries and Fisheries-Based Technology ((SSC-SFFBT)) from 1994 to 2000. It was later renamed SSC Magallanes Campus in 2003.

The campus has long been recognized as the only fishery-focused institution in Sorsogon Province. In 2009, it was honored by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as one of the Provincial Institutes in Fisheries and Agriculture (PIAFs) in the Philippines. Its reputation for research excellence has earned the campus recognition, with faculty and students garnering awards for outstanding research contributions.
The campus also plays a pivotal role in sustainable fisheries through its extension programs, which serve as key components of its technical services delivery system. These include technology transfer, demonstration farm activities, and a Tilapia production dispersal program.

Today, SorSU Magallanes Campus offers a range of academic programs focused on its niche in fisheries, as well as the newly introduced Marine Biology course. It also offers sustainable and impactful tracks in Education and Entrepreneurship. The campus continues to strengthen its research and extension initiatives, exemplified by its livelihood-based projects such as the “Empowering Fisherfolks through the S&T Community-Based for Inclusive Development (STC4iD) Modality” in Barangay Behia, Magallanes, Sorsogon, in partnership with the University of the Philippines Los Baños.
In addition to its research and extension activities, SorSU Magallanes boasts a faculty of scholars and scientists who are engaged in international collaborations, further solidifying the campus’s role as a leader in research and development.
