On September 19, 2024, the Sorsogon State University – College of Teacher Education & Midwifery (SorSU-CoTEdM) formalized a significant partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) by signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to launch “LOTUS 3.0 Parents Education for Child Learning Success.” The landmark event, held at the SorSU Board Room, was a strategic response to address the pressing issue of learning poverty in the Philippines.
The program commenced with Dr. Alfonso L. Garcia Jr. (LOTUS 3.0 Project Leader/Dean, CoTEdM) presenting the rationale for Project LOTUS 3.0. He articulated that this initiative offers a short-term course to enhance educational outcomes for children through increased parental involvement. He further said, empowering parents will contribute to their children’s academic success.
Ms. Priscilla C. Saladaga, CESE (PDO V Division Chief of 4Ps), expressed her gratitude for the visionary leadership of SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus in championing this noble initiative to uplift marginalized communities. She highlighted the importance of values-based leadership and professionalism in driving meaningful change.
Similarly, President De Jesus reiterated the university’s commitment to serving and uplifting the community, praising the College of Teacher Education & Midwifery for its dedication to this initiative. She emphasized that while teaching skills are necessary, they must be grounded in genuine compassion. Furthermore, she sincerely thanked the teachers for their willingness to volunteer their time and expertise.
Messages were also delivered by Dr. Ryan V. Dio (Vice President for Research and Extension Services) and Ms. Ma. Marites Bantilo (4Ps Parent Representative).
The event culminated in the signing of the MOA. SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, represented the Sorsogon State University, while Ms. Priscilla C. Saladaga represented the Department of Social Welfare and Development. This agreement marks a pivotal milestone in creating a sustainable roadmap for academic development.
The ceremonial MOA signing was also attended by Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City Campus), Dr. Anna Cristina G.
