SorSU welcomes PEMSEA representatives; Int’l visitors join 3rd quarter activity on Beach Monitoring in Marine Plastic/Litter in Bulan, Sorsogon

Sorsogon State University’s international partner agency team, the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) under its project entitled, Reducing Marine Plastics in the East Asian Seas Region, headed by Dr. Won-Tae Shin (Regional Project Manager, MOF/PEMSEA ODA Project on Reducing Marine Plastics in the East Asian Seas Region), alongside Mr. Kim Hungeun (Senior Manager) and Ms. Haidee Penero (Consultant), was warmly welcomed by SorSU-Bulan Campus officials and two MENRO personnel namely, Ms. Kelly C. Tan and Mr. Mikhail Paolo Rosil at the Bicol International Airport, Legazpi City, Albay, last September 23, 2024.

Further, the PEMSEA officials also paid a courtesy visit to SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, held at the DENR office, Legazpi City on the same day.


The official visit of the international visitors highlighted their participation in the 3rd quarter activity on Beach Monitoring in Marine Plastic/Litter in Bulan, Sorsogon (last September 26, 2024) — the local project component undertaking of PEMSEA in partnership with SorSU, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of LGU-Bulan, and other local authorities.


In reference, the five-year project is designed to align with current international, national, and regional initiatives and campaigns to combat marine plastic pollution. Through the collective efforts of various stakeholders, involving the government, institutions, and civil society organizations, the project aims to reduce ocean-bound plastics in ten sites in the Philippines and Timor-Leste to help protect the welfare of the local population and marine ecosystems.
