In line with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Memorandum No. 49, s. 2024, entitled: “Regional Conduct of 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2024 and Submission of After Activity Participation Report” and SorSU-DRRM/CC Office Memorandum No. 10, s. 2024, Sorsogon State University – Disaster Risk Reduction and Management/Climate Change (SorSU-DRRM/CC) Office successfully spearheaded the campuswide 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2024 last September 12, 2024 in Bulan Campus and today, September 26, 2024, in Castilla, Magallanes, and Sorsogon City Campuses (including Baribag Campus Extension).
The simultaneous earthquake drills began with the activation of alarm systems at 9 AM, prompting the students, teaching & non-teaching employees, other personnel, visitors, and even employees of contractors with ongoing projects in the University to observe the duck, cover, and hold protocol. Moreover, the simulation also involved orderly evacuation and headcount following the one-minute alarm.
The actual conduct of the drills was supervised by Prof. Saturnino C. Carranza (Director, DRRM/CC) and headed by the following officials/focal persons, namely, Prof. Mark Darrel A. Ergina (DRRM/CC Coordinator) in Sorsogon City Campus; Mr. Arvin Andes (DRRM/CC Coordinator) & Prof. Lynn C. Mendoza (Campus Director, Magallanes Campus) in Magallanes Campus; Prof. Achilles G. Honasan (DRRM/CC Coordinator) & Prof. Andrew F. Detera with partner LGU-DRRMO (Campus Director, Castilla Campus) in Castilla Campus; and Engr. Eric E. Floresca, Prof. Ryan D. Remolacio, & Engr. Clifford G. Gaton in Baribag Campus Extension.
In addition, the simulation activities were evaluated by the Local DRRMO counterparts to ensure continuous improvement in the NSED execution. (SorSU PIO)
