Aligned with the DOH’s Healthy Pilipinas: Health is Life initiative (Seven Healthy Habits: 5. Care for Yourself, Care for Others) and aimed at promoting mental well-being and strengthening community ties, Sorsogon State University – Project SYNAPSE (Synergistic Yields Network for Advancing Public Health and Scientific Expertise), in partnership with the Department of Health – Regional Office V (DOH-ROV), successfully kicked off its Session 1 of mental health activities for community members of Barangay Sampaloc, held today, October 9, 2024, in Brgy. Sampaloc, Sorsogon City.
Led by Ms. Mary Ann J. Jintalan (Head, SorSU-Guidance and Counseling Services Unit), Session 1: “Kamusta Ka? Kamusta ako?: Empowering Self-Care and Compassion engaged participants in emotional check-ins, mental health awareness, self-compassion, and self-care strategies/practices. The first session recorded a total of 80 attendees, including 48 beneficiaries and 32 facilitators.
Meanwhile, Session 2 will focus on building resilience amid challenges, whereas Session 3 will emphasize the role of social support in mental wellness. The two sessions will be conducted on October 16 and October 23, 2024, respectively.
Launched in July of this year, the University’s SYNAPSE extension program is headed by Dr. Aaron A. Funa (Program Leader & Overall Chair), alongside SorSU faculty extensionists. (SorSU PIO)
