SorSU-PSME finishes 1st Runner-up, bag awards at 14th PSME Regional Conference 

Of the eight participating State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) of Bicol Region, the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers of Sorsogon State University was hailed as the 1st Runner Up in the Overall Regional Rankings, including the Champion of the Regional Mechanical Engineering (RME) Quiz Show and more awards during the 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙎𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙈𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙨 (PSME) 𝟭𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 held last April 3-5 at 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝘂𝗲𝘃𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀, 𝗡𝗮𝗴𝗮 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆.

SorSU – PSME students also won in the different categories of the 3-day conference, notably as the Champion of the RME Quiz Show represented by Kathreen Aurea J. Matociños, Cedrick D. Ansus, Peter Simon G. Santos, Ronilyn C. Dolar. The University also secured the 2nd Runner-Up place during the General Information Quiz Category which was represented by Janry Lagajino, Rachel Ann D. Bolaños, and Omar Dela Peña.

Under the Sports Events, Jeffrey Salvador Championed the Chess Men’s Category while Chinny Rose Lazona won the Chess Women’s Category. Furthermore, the PSME SorSU Volleyball team took the 4th Place in Mixed Volleyball; Astro Dominic Nituda & Maicon Echano was 1st Runner Up in Table Tennis Mixed Doubles; John Marck Mabastida placed 2nd Runner Up in Badminton Mixed Doubles and Astro Dominic Nituda & Ruby Acuzar placed 2nd Runner Up in the Badminton Mixed Doubles.

For the Talent Show and Fellowship Night, the SorSU Dance Crew competed and ME Students also took part in the Singing Competitions producing winning contingents namely; Mary Grace Valdez who was announced the 1st Runner Up at RSCON Singing Competition Solo Category, meanwhile, Ace Vhin Nacario & Annabelle Duka placed 2nd Runner Up in the Duet Category. Another Highlight is the Socials Event where Mary Grace Valdez took home the historic 1st Mechanical Engineering (ME) Queen title and bagged minor awards such as Miss Congeniality and Darling of the Crowd Award.

Apart from the activities, the ME Students also visited the Peñafrancia Sugar Mill Incorporated at Pili, Camarines Sur, as a Plant Visit which is part of their curriculum on Manufacturing and Industrial Processes. Here, the students observe the process first-hand and meet engineers of PENSUMIL INC. – securing another valuable and inspiring curricular experience in their ME Student journey. (SorSU PIO)
