As part of the South Korean Government-funded extension project under the Memorandum of Agreement between Sorsogon State University and Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA), Dr. Diana V. Sales, Dean of the College of Business and Management Education, went on an impactful international trip to attend the 2024 East Asian Seas Congress and World Ocean Week in Xiamen, People’s Republic of China from November 6 to 8, 2024.

Dr. Sales was accompanied by Mr. Mikhail Paolo Rosil of the Municipal Environment & Natural Resources Office of Bulan. They participated in workshops and discussions aimed at reducing marine plastics and enhancing local practices in marine litter management. Their participation underscores SorSU and LGU-Bulan’s commitment to sustainable environmental practices and international collaboration.


The EAS Congress, organized by PEMSEA, served as a knowledge-sharing platform focused on sustainable coastal and marine management. This year’s theme revolved around innovative solutions for marine plastics reduction, a vital component of the ongoing MOF/PEMSEA ODA Project.


Dr. Sales’ involvement highlighted the contributions of the College of Business and Management Education and SorSU-Bulan Campus in supporting beach monitoring programs and advancing local environmental initiatives.


This trip marks a strengthened resolve in SorSU and Bulan’s environmental strategies, promising the adoption of best practices and heightened awareness on marine conservation in the local community. Their experiences and insights from the congress are set to inspire upcoming projects and collaborations aimed at protecting the region’s coastal ecosystems.
