The Sorsogon State University (SorSU) has secured a spot in the top 100 universities in the Philippines in the 2025 EduRank global rankings, placing 81st among 299 institutions. This ranking highlights the university’s strong research output and commitment to academic excellence.
Additionally, SorSU remains one of only three universities in the Bicol Region to achieve this recognition, with Ateneo de Naga University ranked 44th and Bicol University (BU) at 94th. Notably, SorSU is ranked as the top State University and College (SUC) in the region.
Furthermore, based on the acceptance rate and admissions data, EduRank gave SorSU an 81% acceptance rate, calculated from the ratio of admissions to applications, along with other enrollment-related factors. In this year’s research profile, SorSU published 177 scientific papers, which received 346 citations. The research covered a variety of fields, including Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, Sociology, Political Science, Mathematics, Law, Psychology, Environmental Science, Medicine, Computer Science, and Math Education.
The EduRank evaluation, updated as of March 2, 2025, is based on research output, non-academic prominence, and alumni influence. The rankings are determined by analyzing 850,000 citations from 80,000 academic publications across 229 Philippine universities, as well as the popularity of 1,163 notable alumni.
SorSU’s continued rise reflects its commitment to high-quality education and excellence, under the leadership of SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, and the support of the entire SorSU community, including faculty, students, and staff. This achievement underscores the university’s growing influence both regionally and nationally, with aspirations to provide premier global education. (SorSU PIO)
