On March 31, 2025, the Department of Education Special Management Committee (DepEd ManCom) of Sorsogon City celebrated Women’s Month with a culminating activity to honor women who have made exceptional contributions to education and the community. The event, held at Mai’s Hotel and Resort in Brgy. Caricaran, Bacon District, Sorsogon City, served as a powerful reminder of the influence and dedication of women who continue to inspire progress and promote positive change in Sorsogon.
Among the distinguished honorees was SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, who was recognized for her outstanding leadership and dedication to education. Her efforts have made a meaningful impact on DepEd Sorsogon City, motivating many to strive for excellence and contribute to the community’s improvement.
In her speech as an honoree, she said, “It is with great honor tempered with utmost humility that I accept the recognition you conferred upon me as one of the exemplary women leaders supporting the programs, teachers, and learners of DepEd. As the premier institution for higher learning in our province, the Sorsogon State University has always been committed to the enhancement of basic education through teacher training, graduate programs, relevant research projects, and meaningful partnerships with other public and private agencies as well as local communities.”
She further stated, “Under the present administration, we have significantly expanded and enhanced our institutional commitment and advocacy for this noble cause with more collaborative projects with DepEd. After all, we both believe that by educating all Sorsoguenos we will be able to achieve sustainable and inclusive socioeconomic progress for all. For this goal, believe me when I say that SorSU is here to stay as the most dependable partner of DepEd.”
Also honored at the event were Hon. Marie Bernadette “Dette” G. Escudero (1st District Representative, Sorsogon), Hon. Ma. Ester E. Hamor (Mayor, City Government of Sorsogon), Ms. Marife L. Luzuriaga (Director II, Civil Service Commission, Sorsogon Field Office), Ms. Resurreccion A. Bulaong (OIC Branch Manager, GSIS Sorsogon Branch), and Atty. Karla Herrera (COMELEC Chair, Sorsogon City).
