Organized by the Embassy of Canada to the Philippines, Canada’s Indo-Pacific Agriculture and Agri-Food Office (IPAAO), and the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB), SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, participated in the two-day AgCultivate 2025, centered on the theme, “Addressing Agriculture Sector Challenges through Cooperation in Industry and Academia between Canada and the Philippines,” held from February 24-25, 2025, at the Legazpi Ballroom, Makati Diamond Residences, Makati.
The two-day forum highlighted several panel discussions, including (1) Aligning Canada and the Philippines on Food Security; (2) Human Resource Development in Agriculture; (3) Showcasing of Efficient Agricultural Production Practices, Technologies and Solutions; (4) Research and Innovation in Agriculture, Agri-food and Seafood Production; (5) Enhancing Engagement Between Academia and Private Sector. In addition, the First General Assembly of the Philippines-Canada Network for Sustainability (PCNS) was held on Day 2.
AgCultivate 2025 aimed to explore the Canadian agriculture sector, emphasizing its capabilities and expertise in agri-food/seafood production, agricultural and post-harvest technologies, as well as in education and innovation. It also focused on Canada’s IPAAO, fostering networks among Philippine and Canadian stakeholders in the agriculture sector and cultivating mutually beneficial partnerships across academia, research, and commerce within the agriculture sector.
Joined by esteemed dignitaries from various sectors, the international event featured representatives from the Embassy of Canada (Development Cooperation Agency and the Trade Commissioner Service), Canada’s IPAAO, Philippine stakeholders in agriculture value chain — farmers, cooperatives, industry associations, companies in food processing, feed manufacturing, agriculture technology companies, agro-industrial solutions — as well as international financial institutions, national & provincial government agencies/units (including the Commission on Higher Education), and agricultural universities and colleges across the country, including PCNS members.
