To strengthen STEM education and support teacher development, the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), in partnership with Sorsogon State University (SorSU) and Bicol University (BU), conducted the Project STAR Twinning Workshop on Language Strategies in Teaching Science and Mathematics from June 4-6, 2025, at SorSU Dormtel, Sorsogon State University.
The workshop focused on helping educators simplify complex science and math concepts through effective language use. It included a plenary session on Learning in the Second Language, along with six parallel workshops, such as Vocabulary Building, Composing with Keywords, Defining Format, Profiles, Frames, and Metacognition.
In her message, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, emphasized the need for educators to translate abstract theories into simple, understandable terms to enhance student learning. She expressed full support for future collaborations that empower teachers in the field.
Participants also took part in lesson planning, presentation, and demonstration teaching. This event was part of Project STAR (Science Teacher Academy for the Regions), a DOST-SEI initiative aimed at enhancing the capacity of Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) through training and mentoring programs for science and math educators.
