Carrying the theme “Beyond the Finish Line: Celebrating Sports and Camaraderie,” the Sorsogon State University participated in the grand parade and the opening ceremony of the 2025 Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) on February 17, 2025, at the Camarines Norte Eco Athletic Field.
Along with eight other competing institutions, including Camarines Norte State College (CNSC), Bicol State College of Applied Science and Technology (BISCAST), Bicol University (BU), Catanduanes State University (CatSU), Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), Camarines Sur Polytechnic College (CSPC), Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology (DEBESMSCAT), and Partido State University (ParSU), the Sorsogon State University (SorSU) fielded a delegation comprising 255 members: 198 athletes and 57 officials.
The program kicked off with the Entrance of Colors and the presentation of delegations from various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the Bicol Region. Key figures including Dr. Marlo M. Dela Cruz, PECE (CNSC College President), Regional Director Demetrio P. Anduyan, Jr., CESO III (CHED Region V), and Dr. Alberto N. Naperi (PASUC V President), delivered speeches that emphasized the role of sports in fostering unity and excellence among the region’s educational institutions.
After the speeches, the PASUC V flag and banners were hoisted, and balloons were released, followed by the lighting of the Friendship Urn, which served as a symbol of unity and camaraderie in sports. The formal opening of the games was declared, and the athletes took the oath of sportsmanship. The event also included an exhibition by the majorettes, a field demonstration, the Mr. and Ms. SCUAA pageant, and a fireworks display.
The event was also graced by Hon. Ethel Agnes Pascua Valenzuela (CHED Commissioner/Chair-Designate, CNSC Board of Trustees), Hon. Ricarte P. Padilla (Provincial Governor/Chairperson, Regional Development Committee), along with other distinguished guests.
SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, and other SorSU key officials showed strong support for the student-athletes and coaches by attending the opening ceremony.
