Dr. Put Ang pays visit to SorSU Magallanes Campus

Earlier this February, Dr. Put Ang Jr. of Chinese University of Hong Kong and Dr. Elsa Lee made a social visit to the Sorsogon State University Magallanes Campus accompanied by Hon. Mayor Maria Elena Ramona M. Ragragio, LGU Magallanes purposely to see the Marine Biology Program.

Their visit opened potential collaborations in the field of Marine Science. Dr. Put O. Ang Jr. is an Associate Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s School of Life Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. in Botany from the University of British Columbia in 1991, following a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree from the University of the Philippines in 1982 and 1976, respectively.

His research focuses on coral and coral reef biology, seaweed ecology, and the environmental responses of marine ecosystems. Dr. Ang has contributed to understanding the genetic structure of Sargassum species and the impacts of environmental stressors on coral larvae. He has also been involved in research on Hong Kong’s octocoral and black coral communities.


The visit was also graced by Prof. Mary Rose P. Gabuyo, Program Chair, Marine Biology Department, Prof. Elden G. Orgela, Program Chair, Fisheries Department, and Ms. Shaira Mendones IRO Coordinator.
