Sorsogon State University (SorSU) marked another milestone in its pursuit of quality education with the official inauguration and blessing of the new College of Business Management (CBM) building on July 19, 2025, at its Sorsogon City Campus.
The ceremony was led by SorSU President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, and facilitated by Sorsogon City Campus Director Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto and College of Business Management (CBM) Dean Dr. Ma. Claire Dicen. In his welcome remarks, Dr. Escoto highlighted the university’s growth, while guest speaker Dr. Albert N. Naperi (SUC President IV – CBSUA) lauded SorSU as a fast-emerging institution committed to academic excellence. He expressed his admiration for the institution’s consistent growth, adding that having witnessed its progress over the years, he feels a strong and happy connection to SorSU—like being part of its journey and success.
Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero delivered an inspirational message reaffirming his steadfast support for education, along with that of fellow local leaders—including the governor, congressional representatives, and mayors—who remain united in advancing educational initiatives. He also announced that SorSU is preparing to offer medical programs to address regional health needs. He highlighted the university’s steady development under the leadership of past and present SUC presidents, and emphasized the power of collaboration in transforming lives through education.
In her closing remarks, SorSU President Dr. De Jesus credited the realization of the CBM building to the enduring support of Sen. Escudero, tracing back to their time as Governor and Campus Director, respectively. She reiterated SorSU’s commitment to accessible, globally recognized education, citing recognitions such as QS Stars Rating and Times Higher Education rankings as testament to the university’s rising international profile.
The four-story CBM building was blessed by Msgr. Felix B. Elegado (Parish Priest, Our Lady of Fatima). The 1st and 2nd floors will house BSHM and BSTM programs, the 3rd floor for BSA and BS Entrepreneurship, and the 4th floor will serve as a function hall and kitchen laboratory. Msgr. Elegado also officiated the blessing of the newly acquired SorSU vehicles, which will be used to support student activities, official functions, and academic-related travels.
The event was attended by prominent guests, including CHED Regional Director Dr. Demetrio P. Anduyan, Jr., DOST Regional Director Dr. Rommel R. Serrano, and DA Regional Executive Director Dr. Rodel P. Tornilla—both members of the SorSU Board of Regents, with Mr. Pedro Olivar attending on behalf of Dr. Torilla. Other notable attendees included CNSC President Dr. Marlo M. Dela Cruz (SUC President III), Dr. Albert N. Naperi, City Councilors Hon. Angelu Magda Ravanilla and Hon. Lester Lubiano, SCWD Chairperson Mr. Charles Clemente III, and Mr. Lawrence Lubiano, President of Centerways Construction and Development, Inc. Representatives from DPWH, the implementing agency of the CBM building project, were also present, underscoring the government’s infrastructure support for higher education. Also in attendance were SorSU top executives, campus directors, faculty members, CBM program chairs, students, and personnel, all witnessing the fruit of collective efforts to enhance the university’s facilities and learning environment.
CBM Dean Dr. Dicen expressed her heartfelt gratitude, noting that the CBM building is more than just a structure—it represents years of dedication, vision, and the fulfillment of a collective dream. She believes that the space will be more than just walls and rooms, but more so, it serves as a meaningful reminder that dreams do come true, one small step at a time.
