As part of its steadfast efforts to support the mental health and well-being of employees, the Sorsogon State University Board of Regents (SorSU BOR) has officially approved the four-day Mental Health Break Leave for employees, following the 122nd Regular BOR Meeting held on July 1, 2025, at the SorSU New Boardroom, Sorsogon City Campus.
As stipulated in the Board Resolution No. 43-2025, the new leave benefit, under the Collective Negotiation Agreement (CNA), will be granted to SorSU teaching and non-teaching personnel (permanent, temporary, and casual) who are active members of the SorSU SSC Faculty Association (FA) and SorSU Non-Teaching Personnel Association (NTPA), formerly Administrative and Support Services Association, Inc. (SSC-ASSAI).
The leave is a non-monetizable, paid leave of absence that may be taken in four separate or consecutive days within the year for personal mental health and safety reasons. However, prior to its implementation, a copy of the approved guidelines or Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) will be submitted to the Civil Service Commission for approval.
This initiative demonstrates the University’s dedication to employee well-being, aligning with both national and international mental health standards. Instrumental in this initiative were the SorSU administration, under the leadership of SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus; the SorSU SSCFA; the SorSU NTPA and the SorSU HRMDO, headed by Dr. Perry F. Carpio (President, Faculty Association), Mr. Francis O. Antonio (President, NTPA), and Dr. Abner L. Dellosa (Head, HRMDO) respectively.
SorSU reaffirms its commitment to promoting and championing a healthier and more supportive working environment for its employees, recognizing the crucial role that mental health contributes to employee productivity and institutional excellence. (SorSU PIO)
