Sorsogon State University President, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, joined fellow SUC Presidents from the Bicol Region in attending the Awarding of CHED-UniFAST Scholarships and the Official Launching of the Electronic Certification, Authentication, and Verification (eCAV) System today, September 12, 2025, at the Cuneta Astrodome.
In his keynote message, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reaffirmed education as a central pillar of national development. He highlighted that government investments in learning yield long-term benefits, not only for individual students but also for the country’s workforce and economy. He also urged CHED to broaden UniFAST’s reach and to ensure that clear and timely guidelines are provided to students and their families before every school year.
For her part, CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis underscored that access alone is not enough, that higher education must also be anchored on quality and credibility. She pointed to accreditation and quality assurance as essential tools in advancing academic excellence, while programs like UniFAST and eCAV are meant to complement access with integrity and efficiency.
The program also featured the awarding of UniFAST scholarship grants to qualified students, and the formal launch of the eCAV system, which will streamline academic document processing through secure digital platforms, thus benefiting students, graduates, and professionals seeking opportunities locally and abroad.
By taking part in this milestone event, SorSU continues to affirm its commitment to accessible, reliable, and high-quality education for all learners. (SorSU PIO)
