The Sorsogon State University (SorSU) community gathered for the university-wide Baccalaureate Mass and Solidarity Candle-Lighting Ceremony on June 5, 2026, at the Balogo Sports Complex, Sorsogon City, celebrating a significant milestone in the academic journey of the Class of 2026.

The ceremony began with a solemn mass presided over by Most Rev. Jose Allan V. Dialogo, D.D. (Bishop, Diocese of Sorsogon), together with co-celebrants: Rev. Msgr. Felix B. Elegado, Jr. (Parish Priest, Our Lady of Fatima Parish), Rev. Fr. Gershom J. Colico (Parochial Vicar, Our Lady of Fatima Parish), and Rev. Fr. Jemuel B. Gepiga (Parochial Vicar, Our Lady of Fatima Parish).

Following the mass, the Solidarity Candle-Lighting Ceremony featured the presentation of graduating students, faculty members, and non-teaching personnel as well as an audio-visual presentation showcasing highlights of the graduates’ academic journey.

In her inspirational message, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, encouraged the graduating class to remain resilient in the face of challenges and to continue striving for their goals with determination and hope. She emphasized that struggles and hardships are part of life and leadership, urging graduates to move forward with purpose as they pursue their aspirations.

SorSU President De Jesus also underscored the academe’s commitment to student success beyond graduation, emphasizing its goal of helping students build meaningful and successful careers. Expressing her vision for the university, she remarked, “Ang tanging pangarap ko sa Pamantasang May Puso na sana balang araw isa lang ang sasabihin ng bawat SorSUeno at Sorsoganon: Salamat SorSU, nang dahil sa’yo nagbago ang buhay ko!”

Messages of solidarity and gratitude were likewise delivered by Ms. Jirah G. Halamani (BSEd Mathematics) and Mr. Ralph Laurence M. Janoras (Student Regent/University Student Council President).

The celebration highlighted the candle-lighting ceremony within the academic community and heartfelt renditions of the tribute songs “Simula” and “Minsan” by the graduating class. It concluded with the signing of uniforms, the singing of the University Hymn, and a fireworks display.
