BJMP-Sorsogon City organizes VAWC information drive at SorSU; SorSUeƱo student leaders take part

As part of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) bearing the sub-theme, ā€œVAW Bigyang Wakas, Ngayon na ang Oras!ā€, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) ā€“ Sorsogon City hosted successful information drive for student organization officers of Sorsogon State University (SorSU) ā€“ Sorsogon City Campus, addressing critical topics and issues related to Violence Against Women and Their Children (VAWC), and emphasizing the key role of Republic Act (RA) No. 9262, also known as the ā€œAnti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2024,ā€ on December 04, 2024, at the SorSU Audio-Visual Hall, Sorsogon City Campus.

Following the discussions, officers from major and minor student organizations actively participated in the open forum, where student leaders posed queries regarding the forms and repercussions of VAWC and the provisions of the Anti-VAWC Law.


Anchored in Presidential Proclamation No. 1172, s. 2006, the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW is an advocacy campaign observed annually from November 25 to December 12 (Philippine Commission on Women, n.d.).


This yearā€™s 18-Day Campaign primarily aims to increase further public awareness of the various forms and impacts of VAW while emphasizing that VAW is a public crime; promote safe and effective interventions for preventing and addressing VAW within communities, particularly public spaces; and encourage individuals, communities, and government to collaborate in establishing a comprehensive response against VAW with a strong emphasis on prevention initiatives.
