DOT-ROV capacitates SorSU 4th-year BSTM students through its Filipino Brand of Service Excellence Training

As part of its proactive initiatives to cultivate tourism’s best workforce and empower the region’s tourism frontliners, the Department of Tourism – Regional Office V (DOT-ROV), in collaboration with Sorsogon State University – College of Business and Management (SorSU-CBM), successfully spearheaded the one-day Filipino Brand of Service Excellence Training for fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) students on November 12, 2024, at the SorSU Audio-Visual Hall, Sorsogon City Campus.

In her inspirational message, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, applauded the program of DOT Bicol Region, underscoring the need for tourism students to gain quality inputs and exposure to activities as much as classroom lectures to fully understand the responsibilities and demands of their chosen future profession.

“With the commitment to serve fellow Filipinos as well as tourists from diverse cultures and nationalities, our learners must be familiar not only with the culture and history of our nation but also present themselves as ambassadors of friendship and goodwill to these visitors.”

“I encourage all of you to learn and apply these while you are still studying in our Pamantasang May Puso. After all, our goal here is not only to positively mold your minds but also your hearts to become competent professionals and compassionate persons in the future.”

With Mr. Emmanuel Duran as the distinguished resource speaker, the one-day training covered the following discussion-workshops: Module 1: The Philippine Tourism Industry Situationer and the FBSE Journey, Module 2: The 7Ms of Filipino Hospitality and Service Excellence; Module 3: Delivering Excellent Service Using the GUEST Technique, and Module 4: Service Recovery: The HEART Method.

Dr. Maria Luisa P. Mirasol (Dean, CBM) provided the opening remarks of the activity, while Mr. Kenneth C. Funtelar (Tourism Operations Officer I, PLGU Sorsogon) delivered the message of support.
