The Office of the National Service Training Program, in collaboration with the Office of Student Development and Services’ Guidance and Counseling Services Unit, hosted a hybrid seminar titled “Building Resilience: Effective Strategies for Drug Prevention and Healthy Living” on October 5, 2024, at the Audio-Visual Hall of Sorsogon State University, Sorsogon City Campus. This hybrid event, accessible both via Zoom and in-person, aimed to equip participants with knowledge and strategies to combat drug use and promote a healthy, resilient lifestyle.

The program commenced with the ceremonial Entrance of Colors, followed by the preliminaries. Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto, the Campus Director, then delivered his opening remarks, setting a tone of encouragement and determination for the day’s discussions.

The first topic, led by representatives from PDEA Sorsogon, explored the “National and Provincial Drug Situation and RA 9165”, offering insights into current drug-related issues and the legal frameworks in place. This was followed by a brief Ice Breaker to re-energize the participants.

Next, PDEA Sorsogon discussed the second topic “Drug Prevention Strategies: Understanding Resilience and Its Role in Drug Prevention and a Drug-Free Workplace”, emphasizing the critical role resilience plays in helping individuals and communities withstand the pressures of substance abuse.

After another engaging Ice Breaker by NSTP Kaagapay, Mary Ann J. Jintalan, Head of the Guidance and Counseling Services Unit, delved into “Understanding Peer Pressure: Strategies for Enhancing Students’ Resistance Skills”. This session provided practical tips on handling peer pressure and reinforcing personal boundaries.

The seminar concluded with an Open Forum, where attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers, followed by closing remarks from Mary Rose B. Lacdang, the NSTP Coordinator.

The event was a comprehensive blend of information, interaction, and inspiration, leaving participants with valuable tools for maintaining a drug-free lifestyle and fostering resilience in the face of challenges.
