Herbarium Sorsogonense among the 24 registered, active herbaria in PH recognized by NMP

Herbarium Sorsogonense (HE), the only internationally acknowledged repository of plant specimens in the Bicol Region, is now officially recognized by the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) as one of the 24 registered and active herbaria in the country.

Under the leadership of Dr. Richard V. Dumilag (Head Curator/Marine Plant Species Curator), together with Prof. Teresa Haide R. Belgica (Terrestrial Plant Species Curator), SorSU-HE (a botanical research center) primarily focuses on collecting, preserving, and documenting the diverse plant biodiversity in the Sorsogon Province. Its extensive collection mainly comprises marine algae and is complemented by varied local terrestrial plants.

The formal recognition of Herbarium Sorsogonense (HE) by NMP demonstrates HE’s proactive pursuit and commitment to advancing high-quality scientific research on plant diversity and conservation initiatives at the regional, national, and international levels. (SorSU PIO)
