Honoring timeless bonds and legacy: SorSU alumni celebrate festive Pagturupar 2025

To celebrate their timeless bonds, shared milestones, and enduring legacy, alumni from various batches of Sorsogon State University (formerly Sorsogon School of Arts and Trades, Sorsogon College of Arts and Trades, & Sorsogon State College), facilitated by SSC Alumni Association, Inc. officers, headed by Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Alumni President, SSC Alumni Association, Inc.), heartwarmingly celebrated Pagturupar 2025 on April 19, 2025, at the SorSU Covered Court, Sorsogon City Campus.

Honoring their 25th anniversary, the Silver Jubilarians, Batch 2000, served as the main host of this year’s Pagturupar in collaboration with other host batches: 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2005, & 2010 — marking their 50th, 45th, 40th, 35th, 30th, 20th, and 15th anniversaries, respectively.

Themed, “Timeless Connections: A Journey Through the Past, Present, and Future,” the alumni homecoming 2025 began on a high note with a Grand Homecoming Parade, starting from the Kasanggayahan Amphitheater Grounds to the main streets of Sorsogon City.

Setting the tone for the festivities, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, also a distinguished alumnae from Batch 1988, formally commenced the opening program with a warm welcome to the attendees of the homecoming event, emphasizing that wherever they may go — there is always a significant part of SSAT, SCAT, or SSC, and now SorSU, that will remain within them for all time.

Dr. President De Jesus also shared in her speech the recent developments happening in SorSU, noting her profound appreciation to the alumni association, which has shared so much in helping the Pamantasan in many worthwhile projects.

She concluded, “And I hope you will stand with us in many more initiatives we are planning to accomplish… Let us all share the same old stories that we never tire of, laughter, music, and dance, as we rekindle the memories that connect all of us to our alma mater and to each other.”

The opening program showcased Pagturupar Playoffs, including different parlor games and a singing contest. Several special awards were also given to attendees during the morning session. Notably, recognizing their esteemed presence, Mrs. Milagros L. Hubilla and Mr. Renerio L. Hubilla (Batch 1956) were awarded as the Most Senior Alumni. Performances by the Alley Dance Academie added vibrance and excitement to the celebration.

Meanwhile, the afternoon festivities continued with the Kamustahan nan Urogmahan session, where attendees gathered in their respective batches, allowing them to reconnect and celebrate together. The evening event, called Alumni Night and Beer Plaza, featured awards, recognitions, and engaging intermissions. Additionally, it included the turnover of donations for Balay Alumni and a short message from Mr. Ronald Jeresano (Batch 2000). (SorSU PIO)
