SorSU-Bulan administers college admission exam, welcomes thousands of aspiring SorSUeños for incoming A.Y. 2025-2026
Sorsogon State University (SorSU) – Bulan Campus, along with the other satellite campuses – Sorsogon City, Castilla, and Magallanes – has successfully conducted the one-day simultaneous College Admission Test (SorSU-CAT) on Saturday, January 18. The exam held at multiple testing areas within the campus : ICT Building, Social Hall, and Computer Center Building, has recorded an amassing 2,332 actual takers out of the expected 2,654 examinees.
The aspiring SorSUenos came from different schools in Bulan and neighboring municipalities, all in the hopes of seeking admission to the university. The highly-anticipated exam began early in the morning with students assembling at the BME Building as the designated holding area. The students then lined up, assisted by student-volunteers from the Kaagapay NSTP Organization, to ensure the examinees proceed to their respective testing rooms in an organized manner.
*Jhon Mark, an examinee, commended the seamless guidance of the volunteers and support staff in handling the students in taking the entrance exam.
“The whole experience was great, the students did not have any issues and problems, all thanks to the staff and students who managed us, their instructions were clear and very helpful,” the examinee said.
The exam was divided into four sessions – with two batch of examinees in morning session and another two in the afternoon.
SorSU as a Top Choice
According to *Kyla, an examinee, passing the SorSU-CAT would mean a lot to her, as this may be the only opportunity she has to be able to study in college.
“I think I did my best and gave my all. To pass the exam would mean so much to me, because I can’t afford to enroll in any private colleges. SorSU is my only chance,” Kyla shared.
Meanwhile, examinee *Joshua, also expressed the same reason, “I really wanted to study in SorSU, so that paying tuition fee, which is beyond our financial means, will not be a problem for my family.”
While most students have preferred to apply in SorSU due to it being a tax-funded university, other students have selected SorSU for other reasons such as quality education, international linkages, and its remarkable reputation.
“SorSU is known to be a reputable engineering school. I want to pursue Mechanical Engineering if ever I pass SorSU-CAT,” shared by an examinee who refused to have his name disclosed.
Meanwhile, examinee *Kevin, shared he wanted to study in SorSU as it offers quality education and has international linkages.
“SorSU, having tied to various international partners, proves its curriculum to be of quality education and it continuously strives to achieve that,” Kevin said.
The examination has gathered mixed reactions from the examinees. While others have found the exam to be surpassable, others have found it to be challenging.
“The abstract reasoning was easy to understand if you will just focus on the patterns indicated to it. I also reviewed those kinds of problems. I think the exam is manageable,” Cherry Dayto, an examinee, shared.
Meanwhile, Andrea Panelo, also an examinee, described abstract reasoning as the most difficult coverage of the exam.
“The time limit was short so it was nerve-wracking to solve the abstract items within a short time,” Panelo said.
The exam covers four subject areas:
abstract reasoning, verbal comprehension, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning. There were a total of 72 questions with a time limit of 40 minutes.
